I am honored that I was asked to serve as chairperson for the 2022 IADC/SPE International Drilling Conference, which will be held on March 8-10, 2022 at the Galveston Convention Center in Galveston, TX. I have actively participated in this event for many years and consider it to be the world’s premier drilling event for information sharing.
This conference has been a long-standing tradition dating back to the very first conference that was held in 1989. In the 33 years that followed that first conference, our industry leaders have made it a point to gather every March to share ideas and collectively take part in shaping, growing, and evolving our industry.
The two things that I appreciate most about this particular conference, and what makes it unique is that it is a joint industry event every year that brings together drilling contractors, operators, service providers as well as all the other industry influencers and that it is a truly international event bringing together people from all around the globe.
Having had a long career as a drilling contractor, working in both the offshore sectors and having had the privilege to work both domestically in the US as well as many other areas internationally. One thing I can say unequivocally is that I benefited from every one of those experiences and most importantly have benefited most from all the people that I have met along the way.
I believe that oil and gas will continue to play an important role in the world’s energy demand for decades to come and we should all be very proud of how we come together as an industry to deliver that energy in a responsible, efficient and safe manner.
Any time I'm asked for advice on having a long fulfilling career in our industry, my answer is always the same: Be engaged and be involved! And having said that, I would encourage everyone reading this letter to become actively involved in this conference by sharing what you've learned with others. The first step is for you to submit a brief abstract describing what you would like to share. Abstracts must be received by 8 June 2021. The Program Committee will then review the submitted abstracts and notify the accepted authors by the end of
As an industry, we are currently finding ourselves with some pretty unique challenges, whether these challenges come in the form of a virus, government regulation, or a general shift in public sentiment. These are the times when the relationship between members of organizations such as the IADC and SPE becomes even more important. So, let’s please make it a point to take the time to come together, to share knowledge, support each other and celebrate our wonderful industry.
I look forward to seeing you next March.
Thanks, and stay safe,
Chairman of the SPE/IADC Drilling Conference
